Everyone recognizes the significance of butterflies as related to Grissom on CSI. We've seen them in his townhouse, and they have featured prominently in the episode (aptly named) Butterflied... tongue.gif But have you noticed how often they appear in CSI episodes, and not always so blatantly?

When I was making clips from Down the Drain this weekend, it really hit me how often TPTB place butterflies in scenes - almost as subliminal messages. ph34r.gif In a scene from DtD, a hanging with butterflies appears behind Sara. In previous episodes, I've noticed them as well. For instance, in Friends and Lovers from Season 1 - a huge butterfly is displayed in lights above the stage at the Rave Grissom and Warrick go to to investigate a murder. Dancers are decked out in butterfly costumes as well. Even the young rave attendees have a butterfly stamp on their wrists. I've also noticed a young child with butterflies on her clothing in another episode, and many more "sightings" that I can't place right now.

Anyway, my point is - these butterflies have been appearing subtly (and more obviously) since the beginning of CSI. It's almost like "Finding Waldo" for us geeks. tongue.gif So, my purpose in this thread is to post your "Butterfly Sightings" as well. Have you seen one lately?

Thanks for the pictures! I wasn't sure about the DtD one. I've noticed them here and there, but not that much! Is that like our geeks and mirrors/windows? Now I'm going to look for butterflies in every episode. I think I might change my avatar to one! smile.gif

I wub.gif your new AV Carbyluv. Butterflies seems like a great mascot for the Geeklove! Especially when they are subliminally thrown in episodes!

Thanks Ms_Spooky! Next summer, when I get bored, I am going to rewatch all of the episodes from beginning to the end looking for butterfly sightings. Who am I kidding. Not a day goes by that CSI isn't playing! This will be fun!

I love the geeklove but butterflies squick me out! Ahhh! Of course, I see them everywhere- especially on CSI. Actually, I'm surprised that no one has opened this topic before. Happy hunting!

I'm going to go rock myself to sleep in the corner now...

Hey, I'd be a proud member of The Butterfly Squad! In fact, I'll be proud member number two! Let's make it catch on and I'll add it to my sig! smile.gif

ETA

Don't worry chayito19, I will keep them far away from you. You don't have to hide, I'll create a magic bubble for you! You can be like John Travolta! I agree, I'm suprised that this topis hasn't been brought up before. All in good time I guess.

Whew! Thanks Carbyluv! Will John Travolta be joining me in the bubble? Can I make a request for William Petersen instead? I know, I know... beggars can't be chosers.

If forced, I can behave relatively sane around them. I was an early elementary teacher and guess what their favorite thing was year after year? Yep, the chrysalis to butterfly project! Okay, back to my happy place...

I was watching reruns on SpikeTV last week and wondered about the butterfly motif. I don't think it's a conscious thing that they do, though...perhaps the prop department has tons of butterfly pictures and other stuff in their truck. Anyway, it is fun to go back and watch for certain things. Now I have two things to look for in reruns...Grissom's body and eye movements when Sara's around, and butterfly items. Yay!
